This is a short, but annoying segment. There are two random battles in it, and since the segment is so short, you need them to be as perfect as possible. I forgot to set ATB back to Wait at the end of the previous segment, and that makes it much harder to escape battles. At Active, you will in most cases escape after one attack, but at Wait, you’re more likely to get attacked by all the enemies. In addition, I also needed Cloud to take a little damage, so that he can get a limit break in the Materia Keeper battle. Trine isn’t enough to fill it up with Sadness. Reaching Nibelheim without getting a battle wasn’t quite as bad as in the Cosmo Canyon segment, but I often got a battle about one meter away. When that happened five times in a row, I got somewhat angry. Walking for 10 seconds doesn’t reduce the number of battles in this segment, but it’s good for a future segment. Finally, there’s a lot to do in the menu at the end of the segment, and I certainly didn’t do it perfectly. The reason why I gave Cloud so much materia is to boost his magic stat for the upcoming boss battle. Also, take note that Tifa has now been equipped with the best weapon in this entire speed run.
